Initial Post
Well, I’ve started a new blog. As the title suggests I will be writing articles about things that interest me in the attempt to pass along some knowledge to anyone who happens to land on these pages. I do not want to limit myself to one topic or area of interest, so, I will try to categorize each post. Just in case anyone is interested and hasn’t read the blurb on the user page, my name is Bill. I have spent a lot of time in school studying physics and writing and various other things. I like to research things on that infinite fount of gloopy useless knowledge, the Internet. I could write articles for different websites that purport to pay for content, but I have found that such pay amounts to very little. I am starting this blog to write about things that happen to interest me on any given day, so, here we are.
I ended up coming to WordPress here after searching for “free blog” on Google. It was really easy to set up and did not have any annoying questions like name, address, phone number, or want me to sign up with a Google account to access my blog. WordPress seems to have a lot of features and I can post pictures to go along with my writing. I don’t think that I can post MP3 files in my blog here, but I could always link to a podcasting site if I felt like doing any podcasting. I think writing is a more efficient means of communication in any case.
I think I will probably keep this blog mostly text. I enjoy writing various things about just about any topic. I tend to write a lot about my personal life in my other blogs, as far as what I do during the day and such, but I think for here I will try to have a topic for my posts and write about things that might interest other people. For instance, I was reading about people who make money with their blogs today. I read about various ways to make money from a blog which were basically to sell advertisements. I think it would be cool if I had a blog with no advertisements. I know WordPress may throw in the occasional ad if they feel like it, that’s cool. I just am not the best salesman I suppose. If I wanted to sell things, I could sell my books or my piece of junk car. I don’t need to make money off any blog, but it might be nice. The Internet is still very young and people are still trying to figure out how to capitalize on it.
What I plan to do with this blog is to have a series of articles about various topics. This might include science, art, cars, health and fitness, writing, and may also include some things that people might find useful such as advice. I need an outlet to publish some of my writing and a venue to practice every day. I have a myspace page that is mostly a blog, but myspace is occasionally unreliable as far as losing my posts and not working properly. I like the features of a dedicated blog service. I have a livejournal blog that is like science fiction in content, but so far nobody has even looked at any of my posts there. I guess I do not spend enough time promoting my blogs.
Well, that’s all for now. Just wanted to post an initial entry and see how all the features of WordPress work. I know it will take me some time to learn everything, but it’s not all the bells and whistles that make a blog interesting, it’s the actual content you post that makes something worth reading.
