Quit Smoking Now
I smoked for years. Smoking is bad for your lungs, and can cause cancer. You might want to quit smoking for your health, but not know how. There is a hard way to quit smoking and an easy way.
The hard way to quit smoking is to get help from your doctor. This costs money, but your insurance might cover it. You will probably need to buy nicotine replacement products like a patch or gum or the doctor might even prescribe Welbutrin, which is an antidepressant which supposedly curbs the urge to smoke. All this will take time and cost money. You might even get therapy on addiction that you will have to participate in so you can understand your addictive behavior. This is a lot of trouble to go through to do something that is really very simple. Some people need the extra help, and if this is you, by all means go ahead and try to get some help.
The easy way to quit smoking is just to quit buying cigarettes or whatever it is you smoke. If you don’t have them, you can’t smoke them. Yes, at first this will be hard. Your body will go through withdrawal cravings. You might get headaches. You will definitely miss the pleasure of lighting up. You will miss the taste of the bitter smoke. Eventually, you will even miss the obstructed lungs, as your body will heal from the years of injury. Make the decision not to buy another pack of cancers. You might feel like clawing your own eyes out at first, but over the course of a week, these feelings will pass. You will notice a heightening in the taste of food. Your cravings for pleasure may cause you to indulge in overeating. Get a grip and manage your feelings. You do not have to do something just because you feel like it. Grow a spine and find something better to do with your time than corrupting your body with poison.
If you find yourself becoming a bum and asking random people for cigarettes try to have a little pride in yourself. You do not need to beg people for their bad habits. If you are really suffering go to the drug store and buy a box of nicotine patches. All you will need is one box. By the time the last patch wears off you will have modified your daily habits so that they do not include lighting up cigarettes and blowing smoke. In all things remember: You are a human being. The most advanced life form on any known planet. A stupid thing like a plant does not have the power to defeat you with deadly cancer if you do not let it. Take power over your own life and just quit. Quit giving your hard-earned money to the tobacco companies and the government just so you can have a few moments of dubious pleasure inhaling pollution. And as for the people around you who smoke, treat them with kindness and sympathy, because you’ve been where they are and know just how they feel.
I haven’t smoked in over a year now. I think about cigarettes now and then, but I think I am over the need to go back to inhaling nicotine. The main factor in my own quitting of this dangerous habit was simply my resolve not to buy any more of the damned things. Good luck if you are trying to quit. You will feel much better when you do.
