What is All This About Making Money With a Blog?
Alright, I just read a whole page of links to different plugin modules you can use with WordPress to make money. There were at least ten of them for putting Google Adsense on your site. Hello, copy and paste a piece of html code once you get approved by Google. How hard is that? Do you need software to copy and paste. Then there were the other advertising plugins. You still have to paste your ID code into the app. Why would you not just do this by hand. I guess it’s laziness.
But of course my favorite was the PayPal widget. Charge people to have access to your blog. As if my words are worth reading. I managed to get two page views from search engines today. I guess my promotion is paying off. Two whole visitors. Eight total for today so far. This is my most popular blog. How many people do you think would read my blog if I charged admission? Maybe if I had pictures of stars in their underwear I could charge a fee. Maybe if I had outrageous political opinions people would give me money to listen to me rant. Maybe, but probably not. But this is not why the PayPal widget is my favorite. It’s the donate button that makes it so cool. I could panhandle. I could ask people to make a contribution to me for absolutely nothing in return. Hey, all you millionaires reading this blog, send me money. You don’t need all that cash. If anyone wants to send me money they can send me an email. Leave a comment with your offer and I will email you my mailing address so you can send checks, money orders or cash. Gold is also acceptable. Where do people get these far-fetched ideas?
Right now I don’t have enough readers to sell advertising. If I had all the Adsense ads on this page that were possible to cram on here nobody would click on them once, because nobody reads these posts. Of course, you are reading this, whoever you are, so thanks for stopping by. Still, you need thousands of page views to generate even a tiny income from advertising. Since I know next to nothing about promoting a site, I will use these pages as an experiment in marketing. Still, you need a product to market.
What I should do is start auctioning off some of my abstract paintings. I should take nice pictures of my art and have people leave bids as comments, so everyone can see how much a painting is going for. That might actually be a viable business model. I might even write up a business plan that uses WordPress as a means of marketing my art. I would have to change the name of this blog to General Purpose Capitalist Experiment in Art Sales or something else that sounds like a relic of the Soviet Union. Good old communists, never could get their bureaucracy to run.
