World of Warcraft Item Binding

Posted in games by someknowledge on March 25th, 2008

One of the things I did not like about World of Warcraft was the continual use of item binding.  Every decent item in the game was either bind on pickup or bind on equip.  This made it impossible to share items after you used or obtained them, or made you not be able to sell an item once you had equipped it.

I think the whole purpose of the item binding system was to maintain an inflated value for game gold.  This really annoyed me and was one of the reasons I quit playing WoW.  I had items I wouldn’t use or try out because I could not decide if I would rather sell them or keep them.  There is no physical justification for an item that can only be used by one person.  It was completely artificial and arbitrary and meant to keep players from getting gold for items they had the audacity to actually use in the game.

This system is becoming more popular in other games.  I even noticed a bind system on some items in a MUD I play that has just been implemented.  When are game designers and administrators going to realize that the system is there to give the players enjoyment, not annoyance?  Probably when everyone quits playing.

Let me rephrase that about BoE and BoP items,i ve been playing WoW for 3 years now and i dont see any reason to complain about bind items, they made it that way for a reasons, example : if item is not BoE or BoP then players can just swap or trade everytime with the same item which will be the cause of economy loss of the game, also if your level is too high on the item or either you dont want the stats in it,you can actually sell it at Auction House(unbinded ofc),name your price to make money or if you have the proffesion of Enchanting, you can basically just disenchant it and use the shard or dust for your own enchantment or you can sell the binded items to the NPCs,and if you cant decide wether you sell it or keep it…you have to look at the item stats bonus if its suitable to your class, then you can decide if the item is good for you,not all items stats are good to every class. Also from Dungeon Bosses that drops Blues and Epics,if those items are NOT BoP then people might not go there anymore for the loots since theyre expecting that maybe friends or guildies have the items that they can just barrow and such,or maybe have it from their mains, this will totally ruin the game imo,if you know ROSE online ,items arent BoP or BoE there but the economy sux bigtime and the game play is not fun anymore after having those items given by friends.
May i ask you…how long have you been playing wow before you quit?
