Missing Money
A popular search today is for Missing Money. Are people really so daft that they would have forgotten that they had some money somewhere? I can see using this site if you have amnesia and maybe you used to be a millionaire but you forgot where you kept your bank account. I doubt anyone else would get any benefit from searching for missing funds.
I am not in the habit of opening bank accounts and then forgetting that I salted away some cash. If I had an old account I’m sure the bank would have siphoned off all my funds by now for inactivity. After a certain time the account gets sent off to the state as unclaimed property. I’m sure the government doesn’t owe me anything. I haven’t inherited any stocks or bonds from any rich relatives. Why is this site so popular today?
All I can say is there must have been a news story about this somewhere. I am in the mood to blame the media for everything. Some person probably found out that they had a million dollars in some account by using this website and the news got to people who just had to check to see if they were dumb like that. Maybe it was a famous person who found out about some inheritance.
There are 14,462 news stories about missing money listed on Google. There were at least five stories today. The news media creates buzz on some obscure topic and all of a sudden people start searching for more information. All I can say is if you have lost some money by putting it in a bank and then forgetting about it you are probably an idiot and need a website to help you out.
It’s not all about bank accounts and stashing away money and then foregetting about it. I saw the site on Google and searched my whole family. My brother’s name and a former address of his was on the site. I immediately took down the state’s toll free number and called him. He placed the call and it turns out that he had overpaid on health insurance copays. A few years ago, he was prescribed a medication and had to pay approximately $300 out of pocket for about 3 months. He was told the medication wasn’t covered on the insurance plan. He paid it and went on never giving it a second thought. He and his wife split up and they both moved from the address. He didn’t complete a forwarding order with postal service. The insurance company tried to reimburse him but the check came back as undeliverable. The insurance company turned it over to the state. He is now expecting a check for close to $900.00. He had no idea that it was all a big mistake and he wasn’t supposed to pay 100% out of pocket for that prescription and that they were eventually going to have to reimburse him. Nice little surprise almost 7 years later.
Life gets busy and things happen. I saw a lot of people on the site who had money coming from utility companies…probably deposits that couldn’t be reimbursed because of address changes. People set up bank accounts in their children and grandchildrens’ names and perhaps they die without ever letting the account holder know of the account. There’s a variety of reasons why this type of thing could happen.

I have found this site to be extremely helpful when searching for hard to find claims. http://www.unclaimedmoney.net . If you have money which has not been turned over to the state, it is called pre-escheat. You will not find these type claims at government offices as I found out the hard way. I understand they will eventually be turned over to the government, but could be years. If you don’t want to wait, you can track it down on your own as I did with an old insurance claim. It is a bit more work, but you can find it without have to pay hefty 10-60% finders fees those scumbags charge.
You can also conduct normal missing money searches at this site too!
