Many Free Ebooks, with Resale Rights
I did a web search this afternoon for “blog empire” and found a commercial site selling an ebook called “Building a Blog Empire for Profit.” The site wanted only $29.95 for a copy of this book. I’m way too cheap to pay for anything online. I did another search for this book title with “pirate copy” added to the search terms and found an interesting site with many ebooks, resale rights, sales copy, all for free. People sell these books on ebay, as well as on the net. I guess you have to be a terminal cheapskate like myself to find this stuff for nothing, but it’s out there. If you feel like a capitalist, you can always set up your own website and try to sell these free books to suckers, err, customers.
The download site for a lot of free ebooks is at floodle.net and there is no sales pitch on this site. There is a long list of free ebooks in PDF format that will download directly to your browser for easy viewing. I found a copy of the book I was looking for and read it over quickly. The thing was written two years ago and is mostly motivational. Still, it saved me the trouble of wondering what this title was about and if I felt like it, I suppose I could sell copies of this book myself.
I’ve read a lot of sales pitches for ebooks in the last couple years. Most of these books are overpriced and under-stocked with useful knowledge. You usually don’t even get a listing of the table of contents on the sites that sell these books. If you feel like setting up a website to make money and take advantage of people who don’t know better than to pay money for things they can get for free, go for it. If you just want to read something that you might have seen hyped somewhere, use the power of Google to find copies of this information that are available for free. There’s really no need to pay for something that might be useless to you when the same information can be found for only the trouble of a quick download.
