Do This. Get Rich!

without comments

This is a book by Jim Britt about how to go into business for yourself.  I checked this book out of the library yesterday and finished reading it this afternoon.  I have a lot of time to read now that I am not writing on my blogs constantly.  Anyway, this was a fairly decent book about business.  It had a lot of good advice for how to run an operation and how to make money.

I read books like this all the time.  I am probably an expert on getting rich now.  I got a good deal on the information in this book, as it was checked out for free from the library.  I would have to say that my library card has probably saved me hundreds of dollars already just in the books I haven’t bought because I get them for free now.  What a deal.

About the only practical advise this author gives for making money is to sell something.  He gives as an example his MLM business of selling soap.  I am not about to borrow thousands of dollars to buy soap to sell.  There has to be a better way to go into business than to sell some overpriced product.  I got another book on business from the library yesterday.  The Plymouth Library has a whole shelf full of books on business.  It will take me a while to read them all.

Reading Books

without comments

I spend a lot of time these days reading books.  Since I got a library card in February, I have checked out dozens of books.  I enjoy reading about different things.  People put a lot of time and effort into writing books.  It costs a lot of money to print up a book.  I can check out any book in the library for free.  That’s a good deal.

I have a book I started reading yesterday that is about the history of money.  I find it very interesting.  There is a lot of stuff that most people don’t know about money.  There is a lot of stuff that I didn’t know about money.  That’s why I read, so I can learn stuff I didn’t know.  I also checked out a book about network science.  Networks are the thing these days.  The Internet is the world’s biggest network.  I think networks rule.  I am part of the network with this blog.

I am about to read a book online.  There are many books posted online.  Basically, if something is more than 75 years old and the author is dead, that book is public domain and can be published by anyone.  I bet Plato never imagined that one day his books would be available to anyone with a computer and a network connection.  Anyway, I like to read books, and I am off to find another one.  One of these days I am going to write a book about something.  I have more than a book on this blog right here.  So many words.  So little time.

A Cool Spring Day

without comments

It’s about 52 degrees outside this morning and the sun is shining.  I just stopped by the blog to leave a short message on how things are going.  This blog is on hold for a while.  I have not been updating every day like I used to.  I have been trying to take it easy on the typing.  I don’t really know what to write here these days.  I suppose I should be adding more general knowledge type pieces, but I don’t feel like a teacher.  This is my experiment in blogging, and I am watching the residual traffic decline over time.

The weather is nice today, and I think I am going to read a book or something.  There must be a lot of words on this blog already.  Right now, I think I am just going to take it easy and relax for a while.  Some day in the future I will get back to posting random useful articles.  Right now, I am not interested in writing anything more.

Endless Source of Free Books

without comments

Go to the library.  Seriously, they have a lot of books.  As long as you bring stuff back on time it doesn’t cost anything.  They have new books and old books.  Depending on how big the library is, you might have any number of books.  If they don’t have the book, there is an inter-library loan program.

I have a room full of books that I have bought over the years.  I wonder what to do with these books after I read them.  I suppose I could sell them.  I have given away hundreds of books over the years.  I should have just gone to the library.  In any case, maybe I will start an online book store.

So, if you like to read, get a library card.  Go to the library cnd check out a book.  Of course, there are a lot of free books on the net as well.  Try the UPenn Digital Library for some of them.  There is also Google Books, which has a lot of material.  If you like to read, there is no end to stuff you can find to read for free.  Have fun.

Useful Blog Posts

without comments

In order to be useful, a blog post should tell people something they want to know.  You can write anything you want on a blog.  That does not mean anyone will want to read what you write.  To write a useful post, you need a topic to discuss.  Reports on the weather or on what you had for lunch are not going to do anyone any good.  You must provide some value for the reader so they will find your information helpful.

There are a lot of posts on this blog.  This is my experiment in seeing what people find and read.  The only posts here that get any traffic all have a subject and all convey some information.  I cheat and look up topics on the web that people are already interested in.  This has been where I have gotten my most popular posts.

This post here is probably not very useful.  Over the last year I have found things that draw traffic and links, and I have found a lot more things that get no attention.  It is really quite simple and easy to understand.  If you want traffic for your blog, write about things people want to learn.  If you want to be ignored, write about how rotten your day has been.  It is very simple.  Use the power of the web to look up some facts, and write a coherent post, and people will find your blog.

Annoying Comments Finally Delete

without comments

Well, it turned out that as soon as I published that last post about some spam comments, the system deleted them.  I don’t know why it took so long for this simple task.  Perhaps there was some problem with WordPress being slow.  I have noticed that the site loads slow sometimes.

I have not been posting a lot of stuff to this blog lately.  I suppose this is yet another personal post.  Nobody reads these rants of mine.  Still, I keep putting stuff up as a record of what I have been thinking about.

I spent some hours today reading about business and business plans.  It’s a complicated subject.  I am surprised anything gets done in the business world with all the regulations and things people have to do and all the paperwork that is necessary.  I am doing paperwork right now, posting to this blog.

So, that’s all for a while.  I think I am going to go leave a rant on my personal blog.  Maybe I will write about the strange dream I had last night.  I just remembered the thing right now as I was trying to think about what to say on this blog.  I will one day get back to posting things that people read.  Right now they seem to be finding my rant about sparkplugs.  Pretty strange.  Anyway, the comments disappeared and now I am off to leave yet another blog post on the Internet to amuse and confuse people.

Annoying Spam Comments That Won’t Delete

without comments

I got two obvious spam comments on this blog today.  I tried to send them to the spam filter, and they came right back.  I tried to delete them three times, and they are still there.  Apparently they are some kind of evil comment that knows how to undelete itself.  I would not have thought this was possible.

Perhaps there is something wrong with WordPress.  I see no reason that a simple text message should not be deleted when I hit the delete button.  I doubt that the comment could be resent all these times.  Who knows.  There are so many annoying people thinking up these kinds of things on the net that it defies description.  I had to run Noscripts on my browser because of the rogue antivirus websites that seem to advertise on Google.

Anyway, that’s my post for today.  If these spam comments will not disappear, I will just have to ignore them.  I hope this is not some new malicious programming trick to spam comments onto blogs to get a link.  In any case, who cares?  Maybe tomorrow they will be gone.
